I am currently an undergraduate student at Pratt Institute, studying Communications Design with an emphasis on Illustration. I studied under Ms. Lee for three years, from my sophomore year of high school through my senior year. I have the pleasure of recommending Ms. Lee for her deep understanding of artistic expression and technique, as well as her dedication to uplifting and nurturing her students’ paths towards self-fulfillment.
Ms. Lee’s guidance has helped me to foster a profound relationship with my art. She has taught me to value art for the experience it creates, and the process of self-reflection and experimentation it can facilitate. One of my favorite pieces I created under Ms. Lee’s guidance was an animation portraying painful events we are forced to live through, and how they transform us. With an interdisciplinary approach, Ms. Lee recognized the literary depth in my subject matter and urged me to push beyond my comfort zone and experiment with animation and mixed media to realize the full potential of this project. Her powerful comprehension of artistic elements has guided me to meticulously assess each facet of my projects to produce the most successful outcome. Her encouragement has helped me to explore personal concepts in my art and gain confidence in my own ideas and decisions. She is one of the few art teachers I have known to be able to deeply connect with her students’ artwork and enrich their concepts with her philosophical reflections and life experience.
What is most exceptional about Ms. Lee is her care for her students and her desire to foster true connections with them. Through every student I have witnessed enter Ms. Lee’s art class, she has always ensured them her full attention and consideration. Ms. Lee has been eager to offer her own time after classes to ensure a deeper comprehension of her lessons, even devoting time outside of classes to work with students on furthering their personal projects. She strives to fully understand her students’ intentions and aspirations, taking the time with each student to ask questions and reflect on their answers. Ultimately, this passion to truly understand her students is what inspires confidence and unlocks endless potential in her students. Ms. Lee’s genuine care and patience encouraged me to push past many points of stagnation and excel in my art.
Ms. Lee is truly an outstanding instructor. She possesses a singular passion for artistic creation and an ever-growing wealth of artistic knowledge. Her radiant and humorous temperament often brightened my mood and allowed me to judge my artworks with clarity and without fear of failure. Her kindhearted and spirited nature has strengthened my confidence and instilled in me a love for art that I will never lose.
